Building Across the Shakopee River Valley
Shakopee spreads from the Minnesota River bottoms and historic First Avenue up onto the bluff and out into the newer developments around Southbridge, Windermere and Providence Pointe. Those two halves of the city ask for very different work. Stonewood Hardscapes & Design handles both, from stabilizing a sandy riverside lot near Huber Park to laying out a full outdoor living space on a fresh grade south of Highway 169.

Shakopee Site Conditions We Work With
Sandy River Valley Soils
The valley floor near the river carries sand and old floodplain deposits that drain fast but hold very little. Base and edge restraint have to be built for that, or a patio will creep at the edges.
The Bluff Line Above First Avenue
Older Shakopee neighborhoods stack up the bluff, leaving short steep yards. Tiered walls with real drainage behind them make those slopes usable without inviting a slide.
New Development Grading
Southbridge, Windermere and the west side subdivisions sit on engineered fill with fixed drainage swales. We adjust patios and walls around those swales instead of blocking them.
Scott County and Watershed Review
Larger grading changes fall under city permits and Scott Watershed Management Organization standards. We prepare erosion control and stormwater details as part of the submittal.

I honestly can’t say enough good things about Nick and the team at Stonewood Landscaping. We had a really complicated project at our lake home with difficult access, retaining walls, extensive landscaping and a lot of moving parts. Nick made what could have been a very stressful project so much easier. He was always responsive, easy to communicate with and, most importantly, when something came up, he figured it out. I really appreciated that I could trust him to handle things and make sure they were done right. His crew was also amazing—hardworking, respectful of our property and they did beautiful work. After everything that went into this project, I’m so happy with how it turned out. I would recommend Nick and Stonewood without hesitation, especially for a project that is complicated or requires someone who knows what they’re doing. Nick went above and beyond for us and I’m grateful for everything he and his team did. Absolutely 5 stars!Posted on Google![]()

We had a great experience with Stonewood Hardscapes! Mike, Tyler, and the entire crew were so friendly, professional, and prompt during our shoreline and new sand beach project. Our backyard on a hill is now much more functional with a flat sand beach atea and the sturdy stone steps get us down to our beach and dock easily. We are so happy with the final result!Posted on Google![]()

Michael and his crew did a great job with the patio portion of our deck and patio we had put in and rock mulch around the house. Very high quality installation that looks great. This was a combo job with Outdoor Solutions, Inc. that did the deck and they worked together seamlessly to keep things moving. Both companies have great attention to detail and do the little things to really make it nice.Posted on Google![]()

They made quick work of our project and were frequently asking if we were satisfied with the results. Would definitely use them again.Posted on Google![]()

What a fantastic company!! 5 stars only because I can’t give them 6. Mike and his crew reconstructed my failing shoreline with large-boulder rip rap, installed natural stone steps to the water and stone edging to frame the yard, brought in lots of clean fill and topsoil, laid new sod (and watered it for me while I was gone !!) , wired in a lake pump with extra spigot, installed a 2-zone sprinkler system, AND built a little pump house that exactly matches my house to cover the pump assembly. Their work was impeccable and the project was completed on time. They even removed a lot of old material that I no longer needed, saving me some trips to the dump. Mike, Nick, Tyler, Zach, Zach, and Logan are a very hard-working and well-coordinated team…just great guys all-around. I could not be happier with this entire crew or the great job they did.Posted on Google![]()

Stonewood did a wonderful job on our landscaping. The scope of work extended from our house to the shoreline. Mike and Nick adapted our wishes to a difficult environment which included using a barge for the majority of the work. The crews were able to adapt our requests to the natural environment and simultaneously work within the requirements of the local government agencies. Mike and Nick were often on site and kept us informed as the work progressed. The end result is beautiful and we could not be happier. Thank you to the entire Stonewood crew who took our vision and created our spectacular landscape. Shawn & Kristy SchafferPosted on Google![]()

Mike and the great crew at Stonewood Hardscapes designed and installed a beautiful new entry for our home. They cleared out the 30 year old breaking bricks and removed the old overgrown flowers that only bloomed one week out of the summer. They put in new pavers, boulders and a water feature. It looks and feels so refreshed. It’s our favorite place to watch the sunset and listen to the waterfall. The lights add a special and inviting touch. If you want to refresh and renew your entry way give them a call. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Yes, with the right build. Sandy soil drains well but shifts, so we compact base in thin lifts and install solid edge restraint to keep pavers from spreading over time.
Regularly. In developments like Southbridge and Windermere we design around builder drainage swales and easements so the finished grade still moves water where the plan intends.
Spring and early summer fill quickly. Booking over winter gives the widest choice of dates, though we install through late fall whenever ground conditions allow.
Yes. We hold seasonal contracts with Shakopee industrial and retail properties for plowing, ice control and sidewalk clearing, including early morning service before shifts start.
