Hardscape Design and Installation in Savage, MN
Retaining walls, patios and grading built for Savage bluff lots and clay soil
Scott County crews staged ten minutes from your driveway.
Outdoor Living Built for Savage Properties
Savage runs from the Minnesota River bluffs in the north down through Hidden Valley, Boulder Pointe and the newer neighborhoods along Highway 13, and almost none of it is flat. Stonewood Hardscapes & Design works these grade changes constantly, turning unusable side slopes into tiered patios and walkout entertaining space. We are based just up the road in Prior Lake, so Savage sits inside our daily route rather than at the edge of a map. That proximity shows up as quicker site visits and shorter gaps between phases of your build.

Local Conditions That Shape Savage Projects
Bluff Grades and Walkout Lots
North Savage drops hard toward the river valley. Steep rear yards need engineered tiered walls and real drainage behind them, not a single tall wall that will bow within a few winters.
Savage Fen and Groundwater Sensitivity
The Savage Fen is a state protected calcareous fen fed by groundwater. Projects near it face tighter scrutiny on excavation depth and runoff, and we design around those limits rather than around them.
Mixed River Terrace and Till Soils
Northern Savage sits on sandy river terrace while the south side runs to heavier till and clay. Base depth and compaction get set by what we actually find, not by a standard spec sheet.
Watershed District Permitting
Much of Savage falls under the Lower Minnesota River Watershed District, which reviews grading and stormwater changes. We handle the submittals alongside the city permit so timelines stay predictable.

I honestly can’t say enough good things about Nick and the team at Stonewood Landscaping. We had a really complicated project at our lake home with difficult access, retaining walls, extensive landscaping and a lot of moving parts. Nick made what could have been a very stressful project so much easier. He was always responsive, easy to communicate with and, most importantly, when something came up, he figured it out. I really appreciated that I could trust him to handle things and make sure they were done right. His crew was also amazing—hardworking, respectful of our property and they did beautiful work. After everything that went into this project, I’m so happy with how it turned out. I would recommend Nick and Stonewood without hesitation, especially for a project that is complicated or requires someone who knows what they’re doing. Nick went above and beyond for us and I’m grateful for everything he and his team did. Absolutely 5 stars!Posted on Google![]()

We had a great experience with Stonewood Hardscapes! Mike, Tyler, and the entire crew were so friendly, professional, and prompt during our shoreline and new sand beach project. Our backyard on a hill is now much more functional with a flat sand beach atea and the sturdy stone steps get us down to our beach and dock easily. We are so happy with the final result!Posted on Google![]()

Michael and his crew did a great job with the patio portion of our deck and patio we had put in and rock mulch around the house. Very high quality installation that looks great. This was a combo job with Outdoor Solutions, Inc. that did the deck and they worked together seamlessly to keep things moving. Both companies have great attention to detail and do the little things to really make it nice.Posted on Google![]()

Really liked working with Nick, Tyler and his crew on our Rip Rap project and fire pit area. They were friendly, accommodating and had helpful suggestions. They made quick work of our project and were frequently asking if we were satisfied with the results. Would definitely use them again.Posted on Google![]()

What a fantastic company!! 5 stars only because I can’t give them 6. Mike and his crew reconstructed my failing shoreline with large-boulder rip rap, installed natural stone steps to the water and stone edging to frame the yard, brought in lots of clean fill and topsoil, laid new sod (and watered it for me while I was gone !!) , wired in a lake pump with extra spigot, installed a 2-zone sprinkler system, AND built a little pump house that exactly matches my house to cover the pump assembly. Their work was impeccable and the project was completed on time. They even removed a lot of old material that I no longer needed, saving me some trips to the dump. Mike, Nick, Tyler, Zach, Zach, and Logan are a very hard-working and well-coordinated team…just great guys all-around. I could not be happier with this entire crew or the great job they did.Posted on Google![]()

Stonewood did a wonderful job on our landscaping. The scope of work extended from our house to the shoreline. Mike and Nick adapted our wishes to a difficult environment which included using a barge for the majority of the work. The crews were able to adapt our requests to the natural environment and simultaneously work within the requirements of the local government agencies. Mike and Nick were often on site and kept us informed as the work progressed. The end result is beautiful and we could not be happier. Thank you to the entire Stonewood crew who took our vision and created our spectacular landscape. Shawn & Kristy SchafferPosted on Google![]()

Mike and the great crew at Stonewood Hardscapes designed and installed a beautiful new entry for our home. They cleared out the 30 year old breaking bricks and removed the old overgrown flowers that only bloomed one week out of the summer. They put in new pavers, boulders and a water feature. It looks and feels so refreshed. It’s our favorite place to watch the sunset and listen to the waterfall. The lights add a special and inviting touch. If you want to refresh and renew your entry way give them a call. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Why Savage Homeowners Choose Stonewood
Slope Work Is Our Normal
Tiered walls, walkout grading and drainage on steep lots make up a large share of what we build across Savage every season.
We Own the Heavy Equipment
Excavators, skid steers and dump trucks are ours, not rented, so a Savage site never waits on a subcontractor’s schedule.
Ten Minutes Down Highway 13
Our Prior Lake yard keeps material runs short, which lowers hauling costs and keeps Savage projects moving day to day.
Design Through Final Cleanup
One team handles the drawing, the dig, the concrete or paver work and the planting, so details do not get lost between trades.

Frequently Asked Questions
Savage follows the state building code threshold, so walls over four feet or walls carrying a surcharge need a permit and engineered plans. We prepare and submit the drawings for you.
Yes. Most bluff side problems come from surface water and poor wall drainage. We regrade, install drain tile behind walls and route discharge to a stable outlet away from the slope.
Expect sandy river terrace closer to the Minnesota River and heavier glacial till further south. We test at the site and set base depth accordingly rather than assuming one condition citywide.
A standard patio usually runs three to six working days. Sloped sites needing retaining walls or major excavation take longer, and we give a firm schedule with the written quote.
We hold seasonal snow and ice contracts for Savage commercial lots, office buildings and associations, covering plowing, sidewalk clearing and salt application through the winter.
