Hardscape Design and Installation in Prior Lake, MN

Local crews building patios, walls and shorelines across Prior Lake since 2007

Licensed, insured and based right here in Prior Lake.

Serving Prior Lake Homeowners and Businesses

Stonewood Hardscapes & Design has run its crews out of Prior Lake since the company started in 2007, so this is not a service area we drive into. It is home. We build patios, walls and outdoor living spaces for properties around Upper and Lower Prior Lake, Spring Lake, Jeffers Pond and the wooded lots inside The Wilds. Our trucks and equipment stage minutes from most Prior Lake job sites, which means faster estimates, tighter schedules and a crew that already knows how your street plows in January.

What Makes Hardscaping in Prior Lake Different

Lakeshore Lots With No Road Access

A good share of Prior Lake shoreline sits behind steep banks or neighboring lots. We barge materials and equipment in across the water when a driveway approach is not an option.

Watershed District Review

Work near the water often triggers review by the Prior Lake Spring Lake Watershed District along with the city shoreland overlay. We plan grading, buffers and stormwater around those rules from the first drawing.

Glacial Till and Frost Movement

Prior Lake sits on a glacial till that holds water and heaves. We dig to proper depth, choose Class 5 or open graded base for the soil we actually hit and compact in lifts so pavers stay flat.

Scott County Permits and Setbacks

Retaining walls over four feet need a permit and engineered plans in Prior Lake, and shoreland lots carry their own setbacks. We pull the paperwork so your project does not stall.

I honestly can’t say enough good things about Nick and the team at Stonewood Landscaping. We had a really complicated project at our lake home with difficult access, retaining walls, extensive landscaping and a lot of moving parts. Nick made what could have been a very stressful project so much easier. He was always responsive, easy to communicate with and, most importantly, when something came up, he figured it out. I really appreciated that I could trust him to handle things and make sure they were done right. His crew was also amazing—hardworking, respectful of our property and they did beautiful work. After everything that went into this project, I’m so happy with how it turned out. I would recommend Nick and Stonewood without hesitation, especially for a project that is complicated or requires someone who knows what they’re doing. Nick went above and beyond for us and I’m grateful for everything he and his team did. Absolutely 5 stars!

We had a great experience with Stonewood Hardscapes! Mike, Tyler, and the entire crew were so friendly, professional, and prompt during our shoreline and new sand beach project. Our backyard on a hill is now much more functional with a flat sand beach atea and the sturdy stone steps get us down to our beach and dock easily. We are so happy with the final result!

Michael and his crew did a great job with the patio portion of our deck and patio we had put in and rock mulch around the house. Very high quality installation that looks great. This was a combo job with Outdoor Solutions, Inc. that did the deck and they worked together seamlessly to keep things moving. Both companies have great attention to detail and do the little things to really make it nice.

Really liked working with Nick, Tyler and his crew on our Rip Rap project and fire pit area. They were friendly, accommodating and had helpful suggestions. They made quick work of our project and were frequently asking if we were satisfied with the results. Would definitely use them again.

What a fantastic company!! 5 stars only because I can’t give them 6. Mike and his crew reconstructed my failing shoreline with large-boulder rip rap, installed natural stone steps to the water and stone edging to frame the yard, brought in lots of clean fill and topsoil, laid new sod (and watered it for me while I was gone !!) , wired in a lake pump with extra spigot, installed a 2-zone sprinkler system, AND built a little pump house that exactly matches my house to cover the pump assembly. Their work was impeccable and the project was completed on time. They even removed a lot of old material that I no longer needed, saving me some trips to the dump. Mike, Nick, Tyler, Zach, Zach, and Logan are a very hard-working and well-coordinated team…just great guys all-around. I could not be happier with this entire crew or the great job they did.

Stonewood did a wonderful job on our landscaping. The scope of work extended from our house to the shoreline. Mike and Nick adapted our wishes to a difficult environment which included using a barge for the majority of the work. The crews were able to adapt our requests to the natural environment and simultaneously work within the requirements of the local government agencies. Mike and Nick were often on site and kept us informed as the work progressed. The end result is beautiful and we could not be happier. Thank you to the entire Stonewood crew who took our vision and created our spectacular landscape. Shawn & Kristy Schaffer

Mike and the great crew at Stonewood Hardscapes designed and installed a beautiful new entry for our home. They cleared out the 30 year old breaking bricks and removed the old overgrown flowers that only bloomed one week out of the summer. They put in new pavers, boulders and a water feature. It looks and feels so refreshed. It’s our favorite place to watch the sunset and listen to the waterfall. The lights add a special and inviting touch. If you want to refresh and renew your entry way give them a call. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Prior Lake requires a permit and engineered plans for retaining walls taller than four feet. Shorter walls near the shoreline or a bluff can still need review, so we confirm with the city before we dig.

Yes. We barge equipment, base rock and pavers to the site directly from the water, which is how most steep Prior Lake shoreline projects get built without tearing up a neighbor’s yard.

Most Prior Lake patios need six to eight inches of compacted base and driveways need more. Clay heavy till or poor drainage can push that deeper, so we test conditions on site.

Book winter or early spring for the best summer slots. We install from thaw through late fall, and shoreline work is often easier at the lower water levels late in the season.

Yes. Our commercial snow and ice management covers plowing, sidewalks and salting on seasonal contracts for Prior Lake commercial lots, associations and multi tenant properties.
