Hardscape Design and Installation in Edina, MN
Stonework, walkways and driveways that suit established Edina homes
Careful, low impact work on mature, tightly spaced lots.
Hardscaping for Edina Homes and Streets
Edina asks more of a hardscape contractor than most suburbs. Lots are narrow, houses sit close together, alleys are tight and the architecture ranges from 1920s Country Club District homes to new construction on a teardown lot. Stonewood Hardscapes & Design works throughout Morningside, White Oaks, the Highlands and the neighborhoods near Lake Cornelia and 50th and France, matching materials to the house rather than installing one look everywhere.

What Edina Properties Require
Historic District Review
The Country Club District is a designated heritage landmark area with design review on exterior changes. Material selection and layout need to respect that before anything is ordered.
Two Watershed Districts
Northern Edina drains to Minnehaha Creek and the south side to Nine Mile Creek, each with its own review standards for grading and impervious surface changes.
Tight Lots and Alley Access
Side yards are often only a few feet wide. We work through alleys where possible, use compact machines and protect neighboring property lines throughout the build.
Mature Canopy and Root Zones
Century old elms and oaks line many Edina streets. Excavation near those root systems is done carefully and by hand where needed to keep the tree healthy.

I honestly can’t say enough good things about Nick and the team at Stonewood Landscaping. We had a really complicated project at our lake home with difficult access, retaining walls, extensive landscaping and a lot of moving parts. Nick made what could have been a very stressful project so much easier. He was always responsive, easy to communicate with and, most importantly, when something came up, he figured it out. I really appreciated that I could trust him to handle things and make sure they were done right. His crew was also amazing—hardworking, respectful of our property and they did beautiful work. After everything that went into this project, I’m so happy with how it turned out. I would recommend Nick and Stonewood without hesitation, especially for a project that is complicated or requires someone who knows what they’re doing. Nick went above and beyond for us and I’m grateful for everything he and his team did. Absolutely 5 stars!Posted on Google![]()

We had a great experience with Stonewood Hardscapes! Mike, Tyler, and the entire crew were so friendly, professional, and prompt during our shoreline and new sand beach project. Our backyard on a hill is now much more functional with a flat sand beach atea and the sturdy stone steps get us down to our beach and dock easily. We are so happy with the final result!Posted on Google![]()

Michael and his crew did a great job with the patio portion of our deck and patio we had put in and rock mulch around the house. Very high quality installation that looks great. This was a combo job with Outdoor Solutions, Inc. that did the deck and they worked together seamlessly to keep things moving. Both companies have great attention to detail and do the little things to really make it nice.Posted on Google![]()

Really liked working with Nick, Tyler and his crew on our Rip Rap project and fire pit area. They were friendly, accommodating and had helpful suggestions. They made quick work of our project and were frequently asking if we were satisfied with the results. Would definitely use them again.Posted on Google![]()

What a fantastic company!! 5 stars only because I can’t give them 6. Mike and his crew reconstructed my failing shoreline with large-boulder rip rap, installed natural stone steps to the water and stone edging to frame the yard, brought in lots of clean fill and topsoil, laid new sod (and watered it for me while I was gone !!) , wired in a lake pump with extra spigot, installed a 2-zone sprinkler system, AND built a little pump house that exactly matches my house to cover the pump assembly. Their work was impeccable and the project was completed on time. They even removed a lot of old material that I no longer needed, saving me some trips to the dump. Mike, Nick, Tyler, Zach, Zach, and Logan are a very hard-working and well-coordinated team…just great guys all-around. I could not be happier with this entire crew or the great job they did.Posted on Google![]()

Stonewood did a wonderful job on our landscaping. The scope of work extended from our house to the shoreline. Mike and Nick adapted our wishes to a difficult environment which included using a barge for the majority of the work. The crews were able to adapt our requests to the natural environment and simultaneously work within the requirements of the local government agencies. Mike and Nick were often on site and kept us informed as the work progressed. The end result is beautiful and we could not be happier. Thank you to the entire Stonewood crew who took our vision and created our spectacular landscape. Shawn & Kristy SchafferPosted on Google![]()

Mike and the great crew at Stonewood Hardscapes designed and installed a beautiful new entry for our home. They cleared out the 30 year old breaking bricks and removed the old overgrown flowers that only bloomed one week out of the summer. They put in new pavers, boulders and a water feature. It looks and feels so refreshed. It’s our favorite place to watch the sunset and listen to the waterfall. The lights add a special and inviting touch. If you want to refresh and renew your entry way give them a call. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Why Edina Homeowners Choose Stonewood
Materials Matched to the House
A 1930s Tudor and a new build call for different stone. We select materials that read as original rather than applied.
Clean, Contained Job Sites
On close Edina lots we stage tightly, protect turf and hard surfaces and sweep daily, because your neighbors live twenty feet away.
Restoration and New Work
We rebuild failing original limestone steps and walls as readily as we install new patios and concrete on a rebuild.
Approvals Handled Properly
Permits, watershed submittals and any heritage review are prepared by us, which matters more in Edina than in most cities we serve.

Frequently Asked Questions
Exterior changes in that heritage landmark district can require a certificate of appropriateness. We confirm the requirement early and prepare the documentation before ordering materials.
Yes. We size equipment to the access available, remove the old surface in stages and stage materials in small loads so the street and alley stay usable.
We map root zones before digging, hand excavate near root flares, adjust layouts around major roots and use flexible paver systems that tolerate slight movement better than rigid slabs.
We reset, repoint and rebuild original stonework on older Edina homes, salvaging existing material where it is sound and matching new stone as closely as possible.
Yes. Seasonal contracts cover plowing, ice control and sidewalk clearing for commercial and association properties near 50th and France, Southdale and Centennial Lakes.
