Professional Hardscape Design and Installation in Burnsville, MN
Engineered walls, walkout patios and drainage for Burnsville hillside lots
Slope work handled by crews who own the equipment.
Working the Hills of Burnsville
Burnsville is the most vertical city in the south metro. Between the Minnesota River bluff on the north edge, the ridge around Buck Hill and the rolling ground near Crystal Lake and Alimagnet, flat backyards are the exception. Stonewood Hardscapes & Design has spent years turning those slopes into terraced patios, walkout entertaining areas and stable planting beds. We work throughout the Sunset and Nicollet neighborhoods, around Keller and Earley Lakes and along the County Road 42 commercial corridor.

What Burnsville Terrain Demands
Steep Grades and Tiered Walls
A single tall wall on a Burnsville slope usually fails. Two or three shorter tiers with proper setback, geogrid reinforcement and drainage behind each course hold far better over time.
Water Running Downhill
Hillside lots collect runoff from every yard above them. We plan catch basins, drain tile and discharge points before laying a single paver, because drainage is what decides whether the work lasts.
Bedrock and Quarry Ground
Parts of Burnsville sit close to limestone bedrock, a reminder of the area’s long quarrying history. Shallow rock changes excavation cost and depth, so we probe rather than guess on the quote.
Black Dog Watershed Requirements
The Black Dog Watershed Management Organization reviews grading and stormwater changes across Burnsville. We build erosion control and runoff calculations into the permit package upfront.

I honestly can’t say enough good things about Nick and the team at Stonewood Landscaping. We had a really complicated project at our lake home with difficult access, retaining walls, extensive landscaping and a lot of moving parts. Nick made what could have been a very stressful project so much easier. He was always responsive, easy to communicate with and, most importantly, when something came up, he figured it out. I really appreciated that I could trust him to handle things and make sure they were done right. His crew was also amazing—hardworking, respectful of our property and they did beautiful work. After everything that went into this project, I’m so happy with how it turned out. I would recommend Nick and Stonewood without hesitation, especially for a project that is complicated or requires someone who knows what they’re doing. Nick went above and beyond for us and I’m grateful for everything he and his team did. Absolutely 5 stars!Posted on Google![]()

We had a great experience with Stonewood Hardscapes! Mike, Tyler, and the entire crew were so friendly, professional, and prompt during our shoreline and new sand beach project. Our backyard on a hill is now much more functional with a flat sand beach atea and the sturdy stone steps get us down to our beach and dock easily. We are so happy with the final result!Posted on Google![]()

Michael and his crew did a great job with the patio portion of our deck and patio we had put in and rock mulch around the house. Very high quality installation that looks great. This was a combo job with Outdoor Solutions, Inc. that did the deck and they worked together seamlessly to keep things moving. Both companies have great attention to detail and do the little things to really make it nice.Posted on Google![]()

Really liked working with Nick, Tyler and his crew on our Rip Rap project and fire pit area. They were friendly, accommodating and had helpful suggestions. They made quick work of our project and were frequently asking if we were satisfied with the results. Would definitely use them again.Posted on Google![]()

What a fantastic company!! 5 stars only because I can’t give them 6. Mike and his crew reconstructed my failing shoreline with large-boulder rip rap, installed natural stone steps to the water and stone edging to frame the yard, brought in lots of clean fill and topsoil, laid new sod (and watered it for me while I was gone !!) , wired in a lake pump with extra spigot, installed a 2-zone sprinkler system, AND built a little pump house that exactly matches my house to cover the pump assembly. Their work was impeccable and the project was completed on time. They even removed a lot of old material that I no longer needed, saving me some trips to the dump. Mike, Nick, Tyler, Zach, Zach, and Logan are a very hard-working and well-coordinated team…just great guys all-around. I could not be happier with this entire crew or the great job they did.Posted on Google![]()

Stonewood did a wonderful job on our landscaping. The scope of work extended from our house to the shoreline. Mike and Nick adapted our wishes to a difficult environment which included using a barge for the majority of the work. The crews were able to adapt our requests to the natural environment and simultaneously work within the requirements of the local government agencies. Mike and Nick were often on site and kept us informed as the work progressed. The end result is beautiful and we could not be happier. Thank you to the entire Stonewood crew who took our vision and created our spectacular landscape. Shawn & Kristy SchafferPosted on Google![]()

Mike and the great crew at Stonewood Hardscapes designed and installed a beautiful new entry for our home. They cleared out the 30 year old breaking bricks and removed the old overgrown flowers that only bloomed one week out of the summer. They put in new pavers, boulders and a water feature. It looks and feels so refreshed. It’s our favorite place to watch the sunset and listen to the waterfall. The lights add a special and inviting touch. If you want to refresh and renew your entry way give them a call. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Why Burnsville Homeowners Hire Us
Slopes Are What We Do
Terracing steep Burnsville yards is a core part of our business, not an occasional job we take on when the schedule is thin.
Engineered Where It Counts
Walls over four feet get engineered plans and permits, because an undersized wall on a hillside is a problem you pay for twice.
Machines Sized for Access
Narrow driveways and steep rear yards need the right equipment, and we own a range of it instead of forcing one machine onto every site.
One Crew, Start to Finish
Tree clearing, excavation, walls, concrete and planting all come from the same team, which keeps the schedule and the accountability in one place.

Frequently Asked Questions
Burnsville requires a permit and engineered plans for walls over four feet, and for shorter walls carrying a surcharge such as a driveway. We handle the drawings and the submittal.
Pooling usually means runoff from uphill has nowhere to go. We regrade, add drain tile and catch basins and pipe the water to a stable outlet instead of letting it sit against the house.
Yes. On steep Burnsville lots we cut a level terrace, support it with a reinforced wall and add stone steps to connect it back to the walkout or upper yard.
It happens in some areas where limestone sits close to the surface. We probe during the estimate so the quote reflects actual conditions rather than a surprise change order.
Yes. Seasonal contracts cover plowing, ice control and sidewalk clearing for retail, office and association properties around Burnsville Center and County Road 42.
