Hardscape Design and Installation in Bloomington, MN

Replacing tired concrete and building new outdoor living across Bloomington

Careful access work on mature, tree lined city lots.

Serving East and West Bloomington

Most Bloomington houses were built between the 1950s and the 1970s, and the original concrete stoops, steps and driveways are now cracked, heaved or pitched back toward the foundation. Stonewood Hardscapes & Design replaces that aging work with paver and natural stone systems that move with frost instead of fighting it. We work through Oxboro, Normandale Hills, Penn American and the wooded streets near Bush Lake and Hyland Lake Park Reserve, plus the commercial corridor along Interstate 494.

What Bloomington Projects Require

Mid Century Concrete Failure

Sixty year old slabs poured on shallow or unwashed base heave badly. We remove the old work, rebuild the base properly and reset grade so water runs away from the house.

Nine Mile Creek Watershed Standards

Much of west Bloomington sits in the Nine Mile Creek Watershed District, which reviews impervious surface changes and runoff. We size drainage to meet those requirements on larger projects.

Mature Trees and Tight Access

Established lots leave narrow side yards and significant root zones. We bring compact equipment, hand dig near root flares and protect canopies rather than sacrificing a healthy tree.

Bluff and Ravine Lots

Properties above the Minnesota River valley face slope and erosion limits. Those sites need engineered walls and controlled drainage, not stacked block installed on a guess.

I honestly can’t say enough good things about Nick and the team at Stonewood Landscaping. We had a really complicated project at our lake home with difficult access, retaining walls, extensive landscaping and a lot of moving parts. Nick made what could have been a very stressful project so much easier. He was always responsive, easy to communicate with and, most importantly, when something came up, he figured it out. I really appreciated that I could trust him to handle things and make sure they were done right. His crew was also amazing—hardworking, respectful of our property and they did beautiful work. After everything that went into this project, I’m so happy with how it turned out. I would recommend Nick and Stonewood without hesitation, especially for a project that is complicated or requires someone who knows what they’re doing. Nick went above and beyond for us and I’m grateful for everything he and his team did. Absolutely 5 stars!

We had a great experience with Stonewood Hardscapes! Mike, Tyler, and the entire crew were so friendly, professional, and prompt during our shoreline and new sand beach project. Our backyard on a hill is now much more functional with a flat sand beach atea and the sturdy stone steps get us down to our beach and dock easily. We are so happy with the final result!

Michael and his crew did a great job with the patio portion of our deck and patio we had put in and rock mulch around the house. Very high quality installation that looks great. This was a combo job with Outdoor Solutions, Inc. that did the deck and they worked together seamlessly to keep things moving. Both companies have great attention to detail and do the little things to really make it nice.

Really liked working with Nick, Tyler and his crew on our Rip Rap project and fire pit area. They were friendly, accommodating and had helpful suggestions. They made quick work of our project and were frequently asking if we were satisfied with the results. Would definitely use them again.

What a fantastic company!! 5 stars only because I can’t give them 6. Mike and his crew reconstructed my failing shoreline with large-boulder rip rap, installed natural stone steps to the water and stone edging to frame the yard, brought in lots of clean fill and topsoil, laid new sod (and watered it for me while I was gone !!) , wired in a lake pump with extra spigot, installed a 2-zone sprinkler system, AND built a little pump house that exactly matches my house to cover the pump assembly. Their work was impeccable and the project was completed on time. They even removed a lot of old material that I no longer needed, saving me some trips to the dump. Mike, Nick, Tyler, Zach, Zach, and Logan are a very hard-working and well-coordinated team…just great guys all-around. I could not be happier with this entire crew or the great job they did.

Stonewood did a wonderful job on our landscaping. The scope of work extended from our house to the shoreline. Mike and Nick adapted our wishes to a difficult environment which included using a barge for the majority of the work. The crews were able to adapt our requests to the natural environment and simultaneously work within the requirements of the local government agencies. Mike and Nick were often on site and kept us informed as the work progressed. The end result is beautiful and we could not be happier. Thank you to the entire Stonewood crew who took our vision and created our spectacular landscape. Shawn & Kristy Schaffer

Mike and the great crew at Stonewood Hardscapes designed and installed a beautiful new entry for our home. They cleared out the 30 year old breaking bricks and removed the old overgrown flowers that only bloomed one week out of the summer. They put in new pavers, boulders and a water feature. It looks and feels so refreshed. It’s our favorite place to watch the sunset and listen to the waterfall. The lights add a special and inviting touch. If you want to refresh and renew your entry way give them a call. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Why Bloomington Property Owners Choose Us

Built for Older Housing Stock

Replacing failed concrete on 1960s Bloomington homes is routine work for us, including matching grade to an existing stoop or garage slab.

Compact Equipment for City Lots

Narrow side yards and alley access do not stop a project. We size machines to the gate opening and protect lawns on the way through.

Hardscape and Concrete Both

We install pavers, natural stone and poured concrete, so the recommendation follows the site instead of following what we happen to sell.

Commercial Winter Coverage

Bloomington businesses along 494 rely on our seasonal snow and ice contracts to keep entrances, sidewalks and lots open before opening hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bloomington requires approval for driveway replacement and any curb cut or apron change, and retaining walls over four feet need a permit. We confirm scope with the city before starting.

Usually the original slab sits on thin or poorly draining base, so trapped water freezes and lifts it. Rebuilding the base and correcting drainage solves the cause instead of the symptom.

Yes. We hand excavate near root flares, adjust layout to avoid major roots and use flexible paver systems that tolerate slight root movement better than a rigid slab.

We work citywide, from Oxboro and East Bloomington through Normandale, Bush Lake and the Hyland area, along with commercial properties near the Mall of America.

Yes. We contract seasonally with Bloomington hotels, office buildings and retail centers for plowing, ice control and sidewalk clearing throughout the winter.
